How to backup the account setting of MS Outlook

MS 아웃룩의 메일 계정 정보 백업하기



내게 새로운 노트북이 지급 되었을 때 가장 난감했던 것은 각종 데이터를 백업 받아 새로운 컴퓨터로 옮기는 일. 특히 메일 데이터 백업은 더더욱 그러하다.

아마 대다수의 직장인들은 아웃룩이나 노턴 등 메세징 프로그램을 쓰기 마련이고, 나 또한 역시 아웃룩을 주로, 선더버드를 부로 사용하고 있다. 여기에선 주로 사용하는 MS의 아웃룩의 데이터 백업 방법에 대해 Vista를 가정하고 살펴 본다.

보통 아웃룩을 백업 받을 때 pst파일 위주로 백업을 진행한다. 그러나 그렇게 할 경우 연락처라든지 POP3계정 정보, 필터 (규칙) 등의 정보가 백업되지 않는다. 아마도 다수의 이메일을 수신하거나 프로젝트 메일링에 가입되어 있을 경우 다수의 메일 계정이 있을 것이고, 또한 디렉토리별로 수신할 수 있는 규칙을 사용하고 있을 것이다.

이런 경우 이를 함께 백업할 수 있는 방법이 널리 공유되지 않아 pst파일 위주로 백업을 하고 메일 계정이나 필터는 수동으로 다시 등록하는 경우가 대다수이다.

물론 아웃룩 익스프레스를 이용할 경우엔 메일 계정 설정을 백업할 수 있는 방법이 제공되지만, 아웃룩의 경우엔 이마저도 제공되지 않아 곤란한 경우가 한 두번이 아니었다.

자, 어떻게 해결할 것인가?

아웃룩의 경우 아래 3가지를 백업하면 이전과 완벽히(?) 동일한 클론을 만들어 낼 수 있다.


1. Profile

(Storage Directory)
[Root Drive]:\Documents and Settings\[Current User ID]\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

- Copy the profile files from above location to same location.


2. Account Setting

(Registry)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook

- Open your registry editor and navigate to the above key.
- Export the entire Outlook key to a file. You've now backed up your email accounts. To restore the backup to another computer, simply import the backup into the new computer's registry. (double click!) You may need to delete the Outlook key off the new computer first. (optional)


3. Mail Archive

(Storage Directory)
[Root Drive]:\Users\[Current User ID]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

- Copy All the PST files to new computer. If the PST files were in different folder (you may want to change the location of PST files) on the new computer, you may get an error message. But it allow you to select the files from their new location.
- Following mandatory files should be copied. (Outlook.pst, extend.dat)
